This is a quick article on what I change the error page for Joomla websites to. I like a clean error page, for a demo visit http://www.joellipman.com/my_error_page.

  • Applies to Joomla 1.6.x, 1.7.x, 2.5.x

  1. Backup the file \templates\system\error.php
  2. Create a replacement file called error.php including the below code
  3. Change the message "The Page you are looking for..." to what you want.
  4. Change the link "www.joellipman.com" to the "www.yoursitename.com".
  5. [Optional] If you want the image that creates the shadow you can download it here. I put it in the folder \templates\system\images.

This is an article to document the migration of a Joomla! CMS running version 2.5.11 to an instance of Joomla! CMS version 3.4.1. I would consider the below instructions an ALPHA version as it is considered unstable for official use... Saying that this is how I upgraded my own personal website: www.joellipman.com.

This article assumes you are familiar with upgrading a Joomla! CMS and running MySQL statements against your database.

For the purposes of this article, we will refer to the live/current/production website running Joomla v2.5 as "v25" and the new Joomla instance as "v34". Their respective database tables are prefixed with "v25_" and "v34_". So an example MySQL statement will be:

-- with the database name and table prefix of database you are READING from (eg. `myuser_joellipmancom_mysitedb`.`lkdjf_content`)

-- with the database name and table prefix of database you are WRITING to (eg. `myuser_joellipmancom_mysitedb`.`ejf1r_content`)

Here's a brief outline of the whole process:
  1. Backups
  2. Install
  3. Users
  4. Categories -- unstable
  5. Content
  6. Weblinks
  7. 3rd-party: JComments

Change Page Title in Website
Here are some instructions on changing the page title in Joomla! CMS to display both the actual page title and other stuff. As I like doing this for this particular website (my personal one) in every version of Joomla it's been upgraded to, I've noticed some differences that I've noted down below.

Specific Joomla Template Providers

Everytime I update this article, Joomla seems to come out with a new version. If you have installed Joomla 2.5, this is now a setting in the global configuration... The only problem is that your landing page becomes "HOME - SITENAME.COM" which is ridiculous and I'm sure Joomla will release a new version addressing this.

This is an article to demo the crudest form which uses Joomla's version 2.5 core mootools (uncompressed?). This is intended for absolute novices (like me) who just want to see an example of an AJAX form within Joomla 1.6.x - 2.5.x in it's most basic state. At time of print, I am using this with Joomla 2.5.6.

The examples of the official site (mootools.net) did not work in my Joomla environment nor did most people's examples across the web. All I wanted was a basic example to show me how to send a form asynchronously (ie. running in the background without loading a new page).
